Love on the Dole
By Ronald Gow and Walter Greenwood

Directed by Tanju Duncan

"Love on the Dole" is set in an industrial town in Salford in 1934 at the height of the Depression, depicting the desperation of unemployment with gritty realism and humour.

It centres on Sally Hardcastle, a young woman in love with an idealist, Larry Meath. We follow the futility of their situation and how an honest, upstanding woman compromises herself in order to survive. It explores, through moving stories of the individuals concerned, a community driven to the edge by the squalor of their lives.

Performance: Wednesday 16th to Saturday 19th August 2006
