An Inspector Calls by J. B. Priestley, first performed in 1945 (in Russia) and 1946 (in the UK). Is considered to be one of Priestley's best known works for the stage and one of the classics of mid-20th century English theatre.

The play is a three-act drama, which takes place on a single night in 1912 and focuses on the prosperous middle-class Birling family, who live in a comfortable home in Brumley, "an industrial city in the north Midlands". The family is visited by a man calling himself Inspector Goole, who questions the family about the suicide of a young working-class woman, Eva Smith (also known as Daisy Renton). Over the course of the evening, the entire family are interrogated by Goole to reveal the shocking truth!

Cast is 4 Men 3 Women:

Mr Arthur Birling: Father - Confident successful Business Man
Mrs Sybil Birling: Mother - From a good family
Sheila Birling: Daughter - Of her time but intelligent
Eric Birling: Son - Drinks a bit too much, well meaning
Gerald Croft: Fiance to Sheila - Intelligent
Inspector Goole: Strong Character, not intimidated by people of a higher station, intense
Edna: Maid (small part)

Directed by John Mole this promises to be a fun and interesting performance. All are welcome to audition and please come along to support the Green in any way you can. We always need people to help backstage as well as lighting and sound operation and front of house on the week of the run.

The Anniversary

The Dumb Waiter - By Harold Pinter

Performance dates: 10th-12th December 2009

Produced, Directed and Performed by Alex Pearce and Richard Whittle

Two hit-men, Ben and Gus are waiting in a basement room for their assignment. Ben is the senior member of the team and is reading a newspaper when the action begins. Gus is the junior member and is tying his shoes as the play opens. Gus asks many questions of Ben as he gets ready for their job and tries to make tea, including questions about their job (Gus seems to be questioning the concept of being a hit-man). They argue over the semantics of "light the kettle" and "put the kettle on". Ben continues reading his paper most of the time, and reads excerpts of it to Gus sometimes, it seems, to change the topic of conversation. Ben gets increasingly more animated in his newspaper story-telling, and Gus's questions become more and more pointed, and at points nearly nonsensical. As the tension rises the physicality of the two players increases accordingly.

The Anniversary

Audition date: 13th December 2009 , 2-5PM

Set in South London, 1966. Three sons who work in the family construction business help their overbearing mother celebrate her anniversary to her late husband.

Despite the fact that Dad is dead, (his dying words, we’re told, being ‘now at last I’ll get some bloody peace!’) the family still gather to celebrate the anniversary of their parent’s wedding.

The question is why? The answer is so that Mum can continue to exert the relentless and obnoxious grip that she has over her sons; binding them to her with gifts, threats and the ruthless exploitation of their weaknesses. She maintains control by any means at her disposal; but not with love, oh no, there is no love in this particular family!
